Configuring Outlook to use Active Directory
for LDAP Lookups

  1. In your Outlook Client select Tools -> Email Accounts
  2. Select View or change existing directories or address books
  3. Click Next
  4. Select Add
  5. Select Internet Directory Service (LDAP)
  6. Click Next
  7. Server name:
  8. Check the "This server requires me to log on" check box
  9. Enter your NID
  10. Enter your password
  11. Check the Log on using SPA check box
  12. Select More Settings (Click on OK if you get a warning)
  13. Enter the as the display name and specify the port as 3268
  14. Then select the Search tab
  15. Enter DC=ad, DC=wsu, DC=edu for the Search base
  16. Apply
  17. OK
  18. Next
  19. Finish
  • Remember to close Outlook and reopen it for changes to take effect.

    To Search or Reference the AD LDAP Directory

    1. When composing a message, you can put a name or alias in the TO: or CC: box and hit CTRL-K to check names. This will bring up a window like:
    2. Another way is to bring up the Address Book window, and in the 'Show names from the:' drop-down box choose the entry.
    3. Then click on Tools -> Find….
    4. And enter your search criteria, then click OK.
